Greek Creation Myth - The Orphic Way

The Cosmic Egg splitting open to create the Universe.
While the Theogony is the most widely accepted creation myth of the Greeks, the Orphic traditions have a different story.
According to them, before there was Chaos, there was Aion (or Chronos) both represent Time in different ways. Time created Chaos and Ananke (Necessity). Together with Ananke he had a son Aether (divine light). No matter, the source, the ancient Greeks seriously didn’t have healthy parent child relationships. But if you think this is crazy, hold your breath, ‘cause it gets even crazier by the minute.
So, Aion created a silver egg in Aether and he and his daughter Nyx (Night) took the form of serpents and wrapped themselves around the egg. When they put pressure on the egg it split into the earth (Gaea), sea (Hydrus), and Sky (Uranus). Phanes represented Procreation and mate with both Nyx and Chaos (and at this point I am so confused with who’s who I won’t even comment). Phanes was made the ruler of the Cosmos and given a scepter (which was a symbol of the ruler). He passed it to Nyx, who gave it to her son Uranus, who passed it to his son Kronos, and he gave it to his son Zeus, who retained it.
So despite the fact, that even they didn’t have a normal idea of what a typical parent child relationship should be like, they at least were peace loving and didn’t believe in bloodshed.
However, if you couldn’t make much sense of what is written here, then you are not alone. The Orphic traditions are generally very confusing, hence the popularity of the Theogony. In fact most scholars have stated that the Orphic Hymns are Asiatic and very un-Greek.
